Building This Site

I wanted a personal site that was fast, easy to maintain, and simple to extend.

Here's the stack I landed on and why.

The stack

  • Next.js (App Router) for routing, server components, and static rendering.
  • React for the UI.
  • Tailwind CSS for styling without leaving my markup.
  • Markdown files for blog posts. no database, just files in the repo. Eventually, I'll add some sort of automation from Obsidian (my writing tool of choice) -> This site.

The blog is just files

Each post lives in src/content/blog as a markdown file with a small bit of frontmatter:

---
title: "My Post"
date: "2026-09-20"
excerpt: "A one-line summary."
tags: ["nextjs"]
---

The body goes here.

At build time the site reads that folder, parses the frontmatter with gray-matter, and renders the body to HTML with marked. Adding a post is as easy as dropping in a new file.

Theming

The site supports light and dark modes with a toggle that respects your system preference and remembers your choice. All the colors are CSS variables, so re-theming is a one-file change.

What's next

I'll keep iterating: adding projects, writing posts, and polishing the details.
